Assemblyman Billy Jones Secures Funding for 1814 Commemoration, Inc.

Assemblyman Billy Jones recently announced that he secured $25,000 for the 1814 Commemoration, Inc. for their annual Battle of Plattsburgh festivities. This event has been a longstanding tradition in the North Country and brings visitors and re-enactors from all over the country and Canada.

“The North Country is rich with military history that is too often overlooked,” said Jones. “This event makes sure that we remember Commodore Thomas MacDonough’s victory in Plattsburgh on September 11, 1814 and the importance of this naval battle during the War of 1812. Between fireworks, the parade, and battle re-enactments, this is an important community event, and I am proud to have secured funding to support them for years to come.”

“Assemblyman Jones’ commitment to preserving the important history of the 1814 Battle of Plattsburgh is only surpassed by his willingness to secure the funding to continue the annual event that commemorates it,” said Tom Donahue, President of the 1814 Commemoration, Inc. “This funding will help offset the costs involved in producing a ‘Living History’ event such as the Children’s Old Time Village Fair with period demonstrators and re-enactors, Military and Civilian bands in our parade, music, entertainment, and much more. The volunteers at 1814 Commemoration Inc. would like to thank Assemblyman Jones for his continuing support of this important event.”

This year’s Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration will be on September 12-15. For a full schedule of event, visit their website at https://1814inc.com/schedule.
